ABOUT: Network of Southern Think-tanks (NeST)
At the South-South Cooperation Providers Workshop organized by the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation and UNDP on 24-25 March 2014 in Beijing, a proposal emerged with broad support from those present for the establishment of a Network of Southern Think-tanks (NeST). This will be an initiative led and driven by the south to bring further clarity to the specific contribution that SSC can make to global development.
(i) seeking to reach a common conception of South-South Cooperation (SSC) amongst SSC providing countries’ think-tanks;
(ii) developing a conceptual framework of what SSC can contribute to the economic and social development of participating countries and, following from this, analysing the nature of SSC necessary and formulating a roadmap for fostering such SSC;
(iii) on the basis of (i) and (ii), developing indicators for impact assessment (the effort would not be to develop a common template for data reporting on SSC but to identify modalities and associated indicators for capturing dynamics of SSC with due recognition of national specificities);
and, (iv) strengthening the systematic data collection process. Once indicators are developed then the effort would be to bring in the relevant statisticians to work out the feasibility of collecting information for such indicators.
Further information will be updated soon.
