The Northwest Indiana Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) public benefit nonprofit committed to housing and economic development in Gary, Indiana.
OUR MISSION
Advancing Housing & Economic Opportunity
The Northwest Indiana Development Corporation (NIDC) was organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. NIDC’s primary purpose is the furtherance of housing and economic development opportunities within the City of Gary, Indiana.
NIDC engages in the development, rehabilitation, and construction of affordable and market-rate housing. We promote economic and community vitality, talent attraction, and entrepreneurial growth. We secure resources to establish programming that encourages homeownership and combats community deterioration.
Closely affiliated with the Gary Housing Authority, NIDC deploys capital into underserved communities to combat racial discrimination and restore dignity to Gary’s neighborhoods.
OUR History
Rooted in Gary Since 2019
NIDC incorporated and Bylaws adopted, establishing the organization’s governance structure and charitable mission.
Amended and Restated Articles of Incorporation filed, reinforcing NIDC’s commitment to housing and economic development.
Emerson Veterans Housing Community plans developed by Alliance Architects, marking NIDC’s first major housing initiative.
