The Northwest Indiana Development Corporation (NIDC) recently hosted a community housing forum dedicated to addressing veteran homelessness and expanding housing opportunities for those who have served our country. The event brought together veterans, nonprofit organizations, housing professionals, elected officials, community advocates, and local residents to discuss one of Northwest Indiana’s most pressing housing challenges.

Throughout the forum, participants explored the barriers many veterans continue to face when seeking stable housing, including rising housing costs, limited affordable housing inventory, access to supportive services, and long-term financial stability. Speakers emphasized that solving veteran homelessness requires collaboration among government agencies, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, private developers, and community partners.
