About This Project
Honoring Those Who Served
The Emerson Veterans Housing Community is NIDC’s flagship development initiative, designed to provide stable, quality housing for veterans and their families in Gary, Indiana. The project addresses the critical shortage of affordable, dignified housing for those who have served our country.
Located on Connecticut Street and Pennsylvania Street, north and south of 8th Avenue, the community features craftsman-style homes with covered front porches, brick veneer foundations, and energy-efficient construction — designed to blend harmoniously with Gary’s historic residential character.
Designed by Alliance Architects of South Bend, Indiana, the homes offer both 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom configurations to accommodate veterans at various life stages and family sizes.
